Mō te tūnga |About the role: 

Parliamentary Service is seeking a Relationship Manager to join our Member and Support Staff team. As a Relationship Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting Members of Parliament and Party-Political Office people leaders throughout their parliamentary journey. This includes delivering high-quality advice on services, staffing, entitlements, and ensuring a seamless onboarding and offboarding experience. You’ll manage a portfolio of Members of Parliament and act as their trusted advisor and advocate within Parliamentary Service. 

You’ll be central to building strong working relationships, ensuring services are fit-for-purpose, and helping resolve complex issues with tact, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the unique environment we operate in. 

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Provide expert advisory support to Members of Parliament and Party-Political Office people leaders on all Parliamentary Service services and entitlements 
  • Lead the onboarding, induction, and offboarding processes for Members of Parliament 
  • Support Members of Parliament with their staffing – including recruitment, performance, structures, and relevant policies and procedures  
  • Act as a key conduit on behalf of Members of Parliament to all services provided by Parliamentary Service - ensuring issues are escalated and resolved promptly 
  • Champion an exceptional customer experience across all engagement touchpoints 
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure services reflect the needs of Members of Parliament 
  • Building and nurturing strong, trusted relationships with Members of Parliament and Party-Political Office people leaders to foster collaboration and seamless service delivery. 

The starting base salary for this role is $111,343 annum (remuneration band extends beyond the appointing salary to account for tenure progression).

We’re looking for someone who can bring sound judgement, outstanding interpersonal skills, and a strong understanding of the political or public sector environment. 

 You’ll demonstrate: 

  • Proven senior-level experience in advisory or relationship management roles 
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills 
  • Strong working knowledge of government processes, policy, or parliamentary procedures 
  • Customer-centric focus and ability to navigate sensitive or complex issues with care 
  • Organisational agility - balancing multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail 
  • Integrity, discretion, and an understanding of the importance of non-partisan support 
  • A genuine commitment to building relationships and enabling others to thrive

In 2023, Parliamentary Service refreshed the Member and Support Staff team’s operating model. A 2024 post-implementation review confirmed its success and highlighted improvements to better support members, staff, and Party-Political Offices. Guided by this and key reports, we’re enhancing team cohesion, culture, and communication to deliver outstanding service and introduce new initiatives based on valuable feedback.
