Mō te tūnga | About the role:

As an MP Support Advisor, you’ll be working 20 hours per week based from the New Plymouth electorate office. You’ll provide community engagement, and support to David and the electorate with such things as Minister/MP visits, events, coordinating meetings and visits with local businesses and organisations, and celebrating community achievements. This is a wide and varied position and at times you’ll need to support the Member at community-based events and other times attend these meetings. The ability to build strong and trusted relationships is key to being successful in this role.

You’ll need to have strong relationship management, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a diverse range of people and organisations. You’ll work within the MP’s support team based out of the New Plymouth office, although at times will be required to work autonomously.

You have a high level of empathy and cultural sensitivity and no matter who you’re engaging with, you leave them feeling supported and valued. You’ll be well known for your proactive, driven, and resilient character. Ideally you will also have knowledge of local organizations, businesses and key leaders in the community.

Ngā haepapa | Responsibilities:

  • Liaise between the Member and the community, representing the Member where required
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local groups and networks, to understand and respond to their needs
  • Arrange, attend and manage events as and when required on behalf of the Member.
  • Support the Member with connecting and engaging with the community and constituents

The pay band for the role starts at $72,100 per annum (pro-rated to 20 hours) and appointments will be based on skills and experience. All employees who work for MPs are employed on an ‘events based’ agreement, with your employment linked to your MP. This role is based at the New Plymouth office and is 20 hours per week.
