  • Two part-time Chef de Partie opportunities available — all-rounder and events-focused.
  • 20 hours per week, based in Wellington CBD.
  • Work within a leading culinary operation delivering premium hospitality experiences.

We are recruiting two part-time positions — one all-rounder and one events-focused — and will match successful candidates to the role that best suits their skills and experience. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your culinary career within a truly unique environment, supporting premium hospitality services at the heart of New Zealand's democracy.

Mō te tūnga | About the role:

As a Chef de Partie you will co-ordinate and prepare all menu items to the highest standards, in accordance with Parliamentary Service standards and under the direction of the Sous Chef. You will supervise shift operations in the absence of the Sous Chef, manage service periods, and support and train junior chefs.

  • Prepare and cook high-quality dishes for various functions and services within the parliamentary precinct.
  • Assist in menu planning and development, with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, food delivery, and discipline across all kitchens, in line with kitchen standards, codes of practice, government legislation, and Parliamentary Service policy.
  • Ensure proper usage of food and minimisation of waste, consulting with the Sous Chef as required.

Tō kete | What you'll bring to the role:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a busy kitchen team.
  • A reliable and professional approach, with a strong focus on punctuality, consistency, and preparation.
  • The ability to follow direction, manage service pressures, and contribute positively to team culture.
  • Experience in a high-volume catering operation, along with café or restaurant experience including both à la carte and function catering — desirable.
  • A recognised Chef qualification.
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm to the team.
  • Flexibility with scheduling — shifts and times may vary.

He aha ka riro i a koe | What you'll gain:

In this role, you'll gain more than just culinary experience. You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Build your leadership capability by supervising shifts, supporting junior chefs, and stepping into a senior role in the absence of the Sous Chef.
  • Develop your technical skills through exposure to diverse services, including high-profile functions and events within the parliamentary precinct.
  • Expand your menu and planning experience, contributing to menu development with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients.

The appointing salary band for this role is $64,485 – $70,979 pro rata per annum (the remuneration band extends beyond the appointing salary to account for tenure progression).
