Mō te tūnga | About the role:
As Team Lead/Senior Payroll Officer, you’ll combine hands-on payroll expertise with leadership responsibilities. This role offers complexity and variety, including processing multiple pay runs, collective agreements, and stakeholder relationships.
- Payroll Processing: Work collaboratively alongside the payroll team to process end-to-end fortnightly payroll functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislation and employment agreements.
- Team Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing payroll team while fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure systems meet legislative requirements, conduct audits, and provide accurate financial reporting.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships across Parliament to deliver customer-centric payroll services.
The Parliamentary Service payroll team provides payroll services for multiple agencies, including Parliamentary Service, Office of the Clerk and Members of Parliament. A dedicated project team is currently implementing the iChris payroll solution in 2025/2026.
Tō kete | What you will bring to the role:
- Proven experience with complex payroll functions, delivering accurate, timely services, and driving productivity.
- Strong knowledge of payroll-related legislation (e.g., Holidays Act, Employment Relations Act) and its practical application, including interpreting contracts and managing HR systems.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality customer service, effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, and meet deadlines.
- Proven leadership skills with experience building engaged collaborative teams and coaching for development and operational excellence.
- Expertise in quality assurance, audit processes, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives within payroll functions

The starting salary for this role is up to $102,863 per annum. Appointments will be based on skills and experience (please note, the full salary range extends beyond this to allow for tenure progression).
