Parliamentary Service is looking for a strong people leader to shape the future of the Member Support Staff function. In the position of Support Staff Lead, you’ll play a vital leadership role in driving the success of the Support Staff Stream within the Member and Support Staff team. Your leadership, coaching, and problem-solving skills will ensure services are consistently delivered on time and to a high standard. This is a unique opportunity to shape and elevate the services and support provided to staff across the motu who work for Members of Parliament.
- Lead with vision and values: Contribute to the strategic direction of the Member and Support Staff team, setting clear expectations and championing the Parliamentary Service’s vision, values, and aspirations to foster a positive, inclusive culture.
- Inspire and develop your team: Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching, and support to Advisors, creating an open environment where ideas and concerns are welcomed, and capability is continuously built to encourage high performance and engagement.
- Drive continuous improvement: Lead the enhancement of the Member Support Staff customer experience by implementing innovative solutions and maintaining a Centre of Excellence that sets the standard for service delivery.
- Build strong partnerships: Cultivate and sustain strategic relationships across Parliamentary Service, and with external stakeholders to enhance knowledge, collaboration, and service outcomes.
- Deliver exceptional customer service: Lead by example in providing professional, timely, and customer-focused service, continuously seeking quality improvements and creative solutions.
- Champion Member Support Staff Experience: Oversee onboarding, induction, training, pastoral care, and advocacy for Member Support Staff, ensuring they receive comprehensive support and development opportunities.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration: Promote a positive, inclusive team culture that aligns with organisational values, encouraging open communication and collective success.
- Ensure accountability and compliance: Manage budgets responsibly, maintain effective reporting, and adapt to evolving business needs while upholding organisational policies and standards.
The starting base salary for this role is $119,351 per annum (remuneration band extends beyond the appointing salary to account for tenure progression).

In 2023, Parliamentary Service refreshed the Member and Support Staff team’s operating model. A 2024 post-implementation review confirmed its success and highlighted improvements to better support members, staff, and Party-Political Offices. Guided by this and key reports, we’re enhancing team cohesion, culture, and communication to deliver outstanding service and introduce new initiatives based on valuable feedback.
