Are you someone who loves diving into information, analysing complex issues, and turning insights into clear, meaningful advice? We’re looking for a Kaitohutohu Rangahau, Research Advisor to support Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke MP with high quality research, analysis, and briefing support.
This role has real impact and your work will help shape advise, inform decision making, and contribute to policy discussions and advocacy that support whānau, hapū, iwi, and hapori throughout Hauraki-Waikato and Aotearoa.

Research & Analysis
- Gather and analyse information from legislation, academic research, media, submissions, and the Parliamentary Library.
- Summarise complex material into clear, concise briefings for the MP and the electorate.
- Prepare research for speeches, public events, stakeholder meetings, and social media responses.
- Monitor key trends and issues relevant to Hauraki-Waikato, kaupapa Māori, and the Member’s portfolio and areas of interest.
- Assemble data, compile statistics, and produce fit for purpose reports.
Policy & Advisory Support
- Contribute to policy development as needed, working closely with the Member and political offices.
- Review submissions on bills affecting whānau Māori and Hauraki-Waikato, identify themes, and provide insights.
- Keep the Member informed on current issues, emerging risks, or opportunities for advocacy impacting Hauraki-Waikato and hapori across Aotearoa.
- Support the Member’s engagement with stakeholders, whānau, hapū, iwi and hapori through well prepared, evidence-based advice.
The pay band for the role starts at $74,270 Appointments will be based on skills and experience (please note, the full salary range extends beyond this to allow for tenure progression). Political neutrality is an expectation. This is a full time, fixed term role until November with the possible extension, located on the Parliamentary Precinct in Wellington. Some travel may be required across the electorate from time to time to support community engagement, hui, and events.

Ō pūkenga | What you’ll bring:
- An understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, and the aspirations of Hauraki-Waikato hapori would be highly valued.
- Proficiency or confidence in te reo Māori, or a willingness to further develop capability in te reo and tikanga Māori, would be highly valued.
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to identify patterns and form well-reasoned conclusions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication - able to explain complex ideas in plain language.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgement and a high level of accuracy.
- A collaborative mindset, with willingness to share knowledge and support others.
