About the Role
Pacific National is seeking a detail‑focused and proactive Locomotive Maintenance Planner to join our team at Kooragang.
Reporting to the NSW Maintenance Manager, this role is responsible for the planning, coordination and optimisation of maintenance activities across our locomotive fleet. You’ll play a key part in ensuring maintenance plans are efficient, compliant and aligned to operational requirements, supporting fleet availability while minimising downtime and cost.
Working closely with maintenance teams, reliability engineers and operations, you’ll translate asset strategies into practical, executable maintenance plans in a fast‑paced operational environment.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop detailed maintenance plans for scheduled servicing, inspections and component replacements.
- Prepare comprehensive work packs including scope, tasks, labour, materials and instructions.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with operations to minimise impact on service delivery.
- Plan and allocate labour, tooling and materials to support efficient execution.
- Maintain accurate work orders, schedules and asset data within maintenance systems.
- Plan and prioritise corrective maintenance arising from defects, inspections and failures.
- Ensure all plans comply with engineering standards, safety requirements and regulatory obligations.
- Monitor plan vs actual performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with maintenance, reliability, operations and supply chain stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, efficiency and fleet reliability.
What you’ll bring
- Experience in maintenance planning or scheduling within rail, mining or heavy industry.
- Familiarity with asset management or CMMS systems (e.g. SAP, Maximo or similar).
- Strong understanding of maintenance planning principles and asset management practices.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, manuals and engineering instructions.
- High level of organisation, attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Analytical capability to support planning decisions and improvements.
- Trade or technical qualifications and exposure to workshop operations are highly regarded.
