About us

Pacific National (PN) is the largest private provider of diversified rail freight services in Australia.  We haul a variety of freight including coal, intermodal containers, steel, and a range of bulk commodities and materials that keep the region’s economy, businesses and households running. We are a company built on solid foundations and we are incredibly proud of the essential role we continue to play supporting Australia’s supply chain. At Pacific National, we take great pride in delivering our best every day and have a relentless focus on customer service and place safety above all else.

We operate nationally with approximately 3,500 staff in over 90+ sites across Australia. We respect and care for the communities in which we operate and continue to evolve our community engagement and strengthen relationships through partnerships and investment. We are focused on reducing the carbon emissions of our business, while also enabling the reduction of carbon emissions in the broader supply chain to support the National targets.

About the role

The Service Delivery Controller (SDC) role is a great way to jump-start your career with Pacific National! In this position you will be trained to monitor, manage, and deliver services and work within a team to ensure all our services run safely on time and efficiently.

This position will suit an individual with a ‘Can Do’ attitude willing to take the time to learn how the Rail Industry and Pacific National operate whilst working in a dynamic environment that is fast paced and everchanging!

Given the casual nature of the role, you will also need to have the flexibility to work a rotating 12hr shift roster which will include working day and night shifts along with weekends for the first couple of months whilst in training, then move into a casual roster working ad hoc shifts (including weekends when required) and assisting with leave coverage for the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for all stakeholders in your area of operations – train crew, network, maintenance, operations and more.
  • Entry of detailed and quality data into our transport and labour management systems
  • Directing the movement of our crews across your area to minimise crew travel in cars while ensuring minimal delay to our services
  • Identifying incidents and events that would cause our services to go off plan, and finding the quickest and most efficient way to manage the disruption and return to the plan
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service; building strong working relationships with all customers (internal and external).

About you

We are seeking dynamic candidates with a positive outlook and a keen desire to enter the rail industry, eager to absorb comprehensive training and knowledge to launch their careers! Ideal applicants will be acknowledged team players with a solid customer-focused background and thrive in a setting where each day brings new challenges. You will also possess creative problem-solving skills and the ability to address issues effectively under pressure.

In addition:

  • Flexibility to work a rotating 12-hour shift pattern
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively using multiple mediums (phone, email, text messages, etc)
  • Intermediate level computer skills, with a background in transport or labour (rostering) management systems and/or reporting systems advantageous but not essential
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team
  • Confidence to review and assess available information and to make appropriate decisions
  • An interest in pursuing a long career in Transport and Logistics is highly advantageous
