About the role

The role of Payroll Officer is to assist with the timely and accurate processing of payroll services for Pacific National employees in compliance with Pacific National policies and Government legislation. The Payroll Officer is responsible for managing the payroll inputs, calculation and report compilation of the relevant pay run utilising PeopleSoft Payroll. This position is an integral member of the payroll function, providing quality customer service to our employees and relevant stakeholders.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • End to end payroll of over 1200 common law contract employees.
  • Accurate and efficient processing of all payroll transactions.
  • Resolution of payroll discrepancies & provision of payroll reconciliation services.
  • Develop strong business partnerships across Pacific National with key stakeholders.
  • Regular payroll reporting, audit, and administration.
  • Management of payroll and other related queries.
  • Assist the Payroll Manager and Payroll Team Lead with regular monthly reporting to management on payroll information.

Success will be defined by the seamless, efficient, and accurate provision of payroll services to Pacific National employees, timely query resolution management, delivery of on time and accurate reporting, and demonstrated customer service values within the Finance team.

About you

To be successful in the role you will need experience in end-to-end payroll, ideally within a large enterprise organisation. No formal qualifications are required, however, experience working with common law contracts, demonstrated problem solving skills and excellent communications skills will set you up for success in this role.

In addition, you will possess the following skills, experience, and attributes:

  • Intermediate skills in the use of Word, Excel and PC based financial systems.
  • Ability to time manage successfully to achieve objectives within required timelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi focused, high volume work environment.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and finding new, more effective ways to achieve objectives.
  • High level of quality, attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Self-motivated, acting before being required to by events to improve job performance, avoid problems or find or create new opportunities.
  • Approaches change or new environments positively.
  • Ability to work unsupervised within a team environment.
  • Understanding in transport, logistics, heavy industry highly regarded.
