Wagon Asset Management Specialist

  • Strategic asset management and project delivery focus

  • Permanent full-time opportunity based in Newcastle, however open to Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Wagon Asset Management Principal, the Wagon Asset Management Specialist plays a key role in supporting the development, implementation, and governance of Pacific National’s wagon asset management plans, sustaining capital programs, and fleet optimisation strategies.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to improve asset performance, maximise return on investment, and support the delivery of wagon projects across the Bulk & Coal business. This role combines strategic asset management, project analysis, supply chain optimisation, and financial oversight to ensure our wagon fleet continues to operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and governance of long-term Asset Management Plans (AMPs) for wagon fleets
  • Analyse asset lifecycle costs, fleet performance, renewal strategies, and upgrade programs
  • Assist with sustaining capital projects and wagon growth initiatives
  • Conduct spend, supplier, and supply chain analysis to identify efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
  • Monitor project performance, budget variance, and resource utilisation across wagon programs
  • Support vendor performance reviews, contract compliance, and procurement optimisation
  • Contribute to safety initiatives, risk identification, and continuous improvement activities
  • Collaborate with engineering, reliability, maintenance, and operational teams to support business outcomes

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience in asset management, project management, or heavy industry environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a commercial mindset
  • Experience interpreting data, managing budgets, and delivering business improvement initiatives
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and work collaboratively across multiple teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of asset lifecycle management and maintenance environments
  • Rail, transport, logistics, engineering, or infrastructure experience highly regarded
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Asset Management, Engineering, Project Management, or similar discipline preferred
