About the role

With an unwavering focus on prioritising safety above all else, an opportunity has presented itself for a new Assurance, Risk and Investigations Principal to join our team. You will be responsible for carrying out, coordinating and communicating the HSE assurance function across the Pacific National (PN) Business in accordance with PN standards and Regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Assurance, Risk and Investigations Manager, this hands-on role will require periodic travel to sites to carry out audits, providing guidance and expertise to ensure that operational stakeholders comply with internal frameworks. This role will also work closely with two other Assurance Risk and Investigation Principals to carryout HSE investigation and risk management activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and coordinate the HSE assurance framework including the FY25 Assurance Plan
  • Take a coaching and mentoring approach to actively assist the business with identifying areas for improvement and promoting positive findings
  • Manage and track assurance activities including completion of action plans
  • Generate factual, high-quality assurance reports suitable for all levels of the business to action and learn from
  • Provide advice and trends to relevant stakeholders from assurance activities to inform risk registers and participate in risk reviews
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in rail operations, relevant legislation, regulations, accreditation, access and the Pacific National HSEMS as they relate to assurance programs
  • Manage high level, significant, sensitive and non-routine investigations and produce high quality investigation reports as required

About you

As a coach, mentor and SME to the business in the area of HSE assurance, you will be an experienced auditor with an engaging and confident approach when negotiating, facilitating and influencing stakeholders.  

In addition, you will possess the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, health & safety, audit or equivalent
  • Certificate IV Work, Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Experience in safety and risk management principles and practices, Risk Management and WHS legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and practical application of relevant safety and environment legislation
  • Experience with Dangerous Goods and Major Hazard Facility assurance activity desirable.
