An opportunity has presented itself for a Wagon Maintainer to join our team based in Newcastle NSW.

What You’ll Do

Hands-on wagon maintenance supporting safe and reliable rail operations.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will:

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled wagon maintenance, inspections, and repairs
• Respond to breakdowns, faults, and emergency recovery work
• Carry out heating, cutting and welding activities
• Conduct mechanical and electrical fault-finding and testing
• Operate mobile plant, lifting equipment and vehicles
• Fabricate and assemble components for repair or modification
• Complete unit train, roll-by, and FX inspections as required
• Liaise with planners, contractors and operators to coordinate wagon movements
• Support locomotive provisioning activities

What You’ll Bring

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to fault-find, diagnose and resolve issues in a heavy maintenance environment 
• A trade background in heavy industry (highly regarded), or demonstrated hands-on experience working with mechanical systems and equipment
• Proven problem-solving skills – able to think on your feet and make sound decisions under pressure 
• A genuine, can-do attitude with a willingness to step in and get the job done safely and efficiently 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, reactive environment where priorities can shift daily 
• Confidence working both autonomously and within a team to deliver outcomes 
• Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads, priorities and operational demands 
• Confidence using basic computer skills for work order management, capture job information and update maintenance records
• Current C Class Driver’s Licence (essential) 
• Forklift and/or MR Licence (advantageous) 
• Rollingstock or locomotive maintenance experience (desirable)
