- Ensure clear and effective handovers between shifts, including fleet status and outstanding work.
- Enforce compliance with rail safety legislation, WHS requirements and company procedures.
- Conduct and verify risk assessments, JSAs/Take 5s, isolations and permit‑to‑work processes.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety conversations and assist with incident or hazard investigations.
- Supervise maintenance execution including exams, running repairs, component change‑outs and defect rectification.
- Verify quality of work and ensure accurate completion of work orders in the CMMS.
- Provide technical guidance and escalate complex faults to engineering as required.
- Communicate clearly with operations, planning and engineering to support fleet availability.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, quality and ways of working.
What you’ll bring
- Trade qualification in Mechanical, Diesel Fitting or Electrical (Cert III or equivalent).
- Strong maintenance experience on locomotives or heavy mobile equipment.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams, coordinating workflows or acting in a step‑up supervisory role.
- Experience working in safety‑critical, shift‑based industrial environments.
- Sound understanding of maintenance planning, fault‑finding and quality assurance.
- Confidence using CMMS systems such as Maximo, SAP or similar.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead, coach and influence others.
- A safety‑first mindset with the ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
Supervisory or leadership training and rail‑specific experience are highly regarded.
