What You'll Do

Reporting to the Manager Planning – Intermodal, the Superintendent Workforce Planning is responsible for leading Pacific National's end-to-end crew planning function across the Intermodal network.

You will lead a high-performing planning team responsible for delivering safe, efficient and compliant workforce plans across all planning horizons. Working closely with Operations, Service Delivery and key business stakeholders, you'll optimise labour utilisation, improve operational performance and ensure reliable service delivery across a complex national network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the crew planning function across long-term, weekly and day-of-operations planning
  • Drive engagement and ownership, ensuring the team is aligned to business priorities and committed to delivering outcomes
  • Build, coach and develop a high-performing planning team focused on accountability, collaboration and operational excellence
  • Develop workforce planning strategies aligned with customer demand, operational requirements and business priorities
  • Oversee the design and optimisation of crew rosters to maximise labour utilisation while maintaining safety, compliance and service reliability
  • Ensure compliance with Enterprise Agreements, Fatigue Management standards, Rail Safety National Law and other regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve planning efficiency, productivity and cost outcomes
  • Partner with stakeholders across Operations, Depots, Asset Planning, Strategy and Customer teams to deliver practical and executable workforce plans
  • Act as the key escalation point for complex workforce planning and rostering matters

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive experience in workforce planning, crew planning or operational resource planning within a complex environment
  • Proven leadership experience managing planning or operational teams
  • Strong understanding of workforce optimisation, rostering and operational planning across multiple planning horizons
  • Experience balancing operational performance, labour utilisation, compliance and customer outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and build trusted relationships across multiple business functions
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capability
  • Experience leading change, continuous improvement and team capability initiatives
  • Understanding of Enterprise Agreements and industrial relations within a unionised environment is desirable
  • Rail experience is highly regarded but not essential
