About the role
An opportunity exists within for a Wagon Maintainer to join the team based at our Newcastle Production Facility. The role requires you to work with the Maintenance Supervisor and Planners to ensure that wagon maintenance requirements are met safely and effectively.
Wagon Maintainers are required to carry out scheduled maintenance, inspection work, out of course repairs and respond to emergency recoveries on the rail network. In this role you will ensure on time availability of Pacific National rolling stock, including the introduction of new wagon and technologies.
Applicants must be able to work on a 12-hour shift, rotating roster basis.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform wagon maintenance in-field, which would typically include unscheduled maintenance, recovery, and collision damage work
- Liaise with planners and contractors in addition to supervisors, other maintainers, and terminal operators on wagon issues; liaise with divisional planners/coordinators to coordinate wagon movements
- Perform mechanical and electrical testing and fault finding of components and equipment
- Set and control isolations of rail infrastructure, rolling stock and fixed plant
- Perform welding activities to AS1554 & heating, cutting and bending activities.
- Operate mobile plant, equipment, vehicles and lifting equipment within work area
- Fabrication and assembly of components for repair, replacement, or modification
- Locomotive provisioning activities
- Conduct unit train maintenance, roll by and FX inspections in line with business requirements
About you
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be able to demonstrate a solid commitment to safety, mechanical aptitude, and a demonstrated customer focus. Mechanical, electrical and boilermaker trades will be highly regarded.
In addition, you’ll be expected to demonstrate:
- Trade background and qualifications will be advantageous
- Maintenance experience in related industries is desirable
- Proven ability to work autonomously and as a part of a team is essential
- Current C Class Drivers Licence is essential
- Forklift and MR Drivers Licences are advantageous
- Basic computer skills and general literacy required to carry out daily activities
