Train Service Specialist

Every day we transport millions of tonnes of critical freight around the country for our customers. We haul coal, intermodal containers, steel, and bulk commodities that keep Australia moving.
An opportunity has presented itself for a Train Service Specialist to join our Service Planning team in North Sydney on a 7-month contract.
What You'll Do
Support the planning and coordination of train services across a 1–4 week planning horizon, ensuring safe, efficient, and achievable freight solutions that meet customer and operational requirements.
Reporting to the Supervisor Service Planning, you will:
- Develop train service plans and schedule critical rail assets across the short-term planning horizon
- Coordinate service plans by confirming network access and ensuring operational feasibility
- Identify planning conflicts, constraints, and opportunities to improve service efficiency and asset utilisation
- Develop recovery plans and planning variations to minimise operational disruption
- Collaborate with Operations and other internal stakeholders to support the delivery of new and existing freight services
- Monitor service performance and proactively recommend planning improvements
- Build strong working relationships with customers and operational teams to support service delivery outcomes
What You'll Bring
- Experience in planning, scheduling, logistics, transport, or operational coordination
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions in a dynamic operational environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence building relationships over the phone and across multiple business functions
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience working within a large or complex operational business is highly regarded
- Rail, transport, logistics, or heavy industry experience is desirable
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience will be highly regarded
This role operates on a rotating roster based in North Sydney on a 7 days on 7 days off roster.
