Join Pacific National – Australia’s largest private rail freight operator

Every day we transport millions of tonnes of critical freight around the country for our customers. We haul coal, intermodal containers, steel, and bulk commodities that keep Australia moving.

Pacific National’s Mudgee operations play a vital role in our Coal network. This is an opportunity to join Australia’s largest private rail freight operator and make a genuine impact through strong leadership, safety excellence, and operational performance.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our values and our philosophy of “we care more”, we prioritise safety, leadership, and teamwork to deliver for our customers, communities, and each other.

About the Role

As Supervisor, you will be a key operational leader within our Mudgee Coal operations, accountable for the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of day‑to‑day rail operations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role with real scale and influence. You will lead and support a workforce of approximately 90 operational employees, ensuring strong safety leadership, effective resource coordination, and consistent performance across shift‑based operations.

You will play a critical role in driving cultural maturity, continuous improvement, and strong people leadership in a high‑risk, operational environment.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and coordinating daily operational activities to ensure services are delivered safely, reliably, and on time
  • Providing visible, values‑led safety leadership and ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Pacific National safety standards
  • Leading, influencing, and engaging a large operational workforce of approximately 90 people
  • Supporting train crews and operational teams through clear communication, effective planning, and timely decision‑making
  • Managing operational resources, responding to disruptions, and implementing contingencies when required
  • Driving productivity, reliability, and continuous improvement across the operation
  • Effectively managing people performance, absenteeism, and employee relations matters
  • Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners

What You’ll Bring

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience leading large teams in rail, transport, logistics, mining, or other complex operational environments
  • A strong safety mindset and demonstrated ability to lead safe work practices in high‑risk operations
  • Solid people leadership capability, including performance management and employee relations
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
  • The ability to operate confidently in a dynamic, 24/7 operational environment
  • Current Australian C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Frontline Leadership qualification desirable, but not essential

Rail experience is highly regarded but not essential — we welcome leaders from aligned industries with the right capability and mindset.

Why join us?

At Pacific National, we’re more than just freight. We’re a values‑driven organisation that puts people, safety, and leadership at the centre of everything we do.

As a Supervisor in our Mudgee operations, you’ll be supported to lead with confidence in an environment that values accountability, care for our people, and strong operational leadership.

We offer a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Paid parental leave
  • Discounted travel and insurance
  • Novated leasing options
  • Fitness Passport access
  • Ongoing leadership development and career progression opportunities

You’ll be part of an inclusive and supportive culture, built on kindness, curiosity, and ownership, where leaders are trusted to make decisions and genuinely influence outcomes.

We live by our values — Make it Simple, Share More, Kindness, Gratitude, Curiosity, Own It — and we expect our leaders to bring these to life every day.

Safely Every Day — bringing safety into every moment, every interaction, every day.
