The primary purpose of a Senior Data Engineer is to be a leading contributor to a range of activities amongst our data engineering team. These include but not limited to designing, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines and engineering projects that enable robust data ingestion, processing, storage and utilisation of data. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure availability and reliability of high-quality data for analytical, operational and product driven purposes and will play a key role influencing the technology and engineering decisions that will shape and help deliver the data engineering platform roadmap. Importantly, you will role model and mentor other junior members of the team in respect to industry good practices and fit-for OneData engineering practices. 

What you’ll be doing

• Lead collaboration efforts with OneDigital team members to fulfill advanced data product requirements, driving strategic project deliverables.
• Architect, design, and oversee the development of robust and scalable data pipelines, ensuring optimal ETL and ELT patterns.
• Evaluate and refine existing data pipeline solutions to align with team objectives and business goals, focusing on innovation and designs suited to long term strategic considerations.
• Elicit complex requirements from stakeholders, translating them into high quality documentation and solution design.
• Be able to succinctly communicate complex or nuanced problems, messages, or questions to varying stakeholders across differing levels of the organization both in a verbal and written medium.
• Highly proactive and self-organising in managing own workload and sometimes the workload of more junior members of the team too.
• Able to work autonomously and self-guided through ambiguous tasks when required and apply good senior stakeholder management techniques and practices.
• Ability to mentor and upskill other members of the team when the opportunity arises.
• Promote and implement CICD practices to reduce manual intervention and mitigate associated code and deployment risks, establishing fit for OneData practices across the team.
• Monitoring and supporting system and data health for the overall data platform.
• Work closely with platform engineers to ensure reliability in our data pipelines and trouble shoot data platform infrastructure issues.
• Work closely with Privacy, governance & risk and fellow senior data engineers to embed data governance, privacy and quality principles into the designs of pipelines and data warehouse.

What you'll bring to the table

• Tertiary qualifications in IT or equivalent. Relevant technology certifications
• 5+ years’ experience working in data operations, data engineering or database engineering.
• Strong experience in SQL and relational databases (Snowflake is preferred)
• Strong experience in python programming language
• Strong experience in data orchestration tooling and methods (Airflow is preferred)
• Strong experience in data modelling (DBT core is preferred)
• Strong technical understanding of data concepts and data management principals
• Good understanding of CICD principals and tooling
• Good understanding and know-how around senior stakeholder management.
• Ability to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders (incl. External partners and senior stakeholders)
• Prior software engineering experiences are preferred
• Experience in big data analytics and cloud technology preferred (e.g. AWS)
• Experience with cloud and DevOps is advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and upskill other junior peers.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and skills development.
• Experienced and well-spoken communicator in technical and non-technical topics.
• Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and evolving user requirements
• Ability to work as part of both a project and operational team.
