Mō te tīma | About the Team
The Parliamentary Engagement group brings together people from both the Office of the Clerk and Parliamentary Service to help connect Parliament with the people of Aotearoa New Zealand.

We work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, helping teams and leaders deliver clear, accessible, and engaging communications.
Our focus is on making Parliament easier to understand and engage with, supporting the Parliamentary Engagement Strategy and contributing to a more open and accessible democracy.
Mō te tūnga | About the Role
We’re looking for a Communications Advisor to join the team and support the delivery of high-quality communications across a wide range of work.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where you’ll provide practical communications advice and help plan and implement communications activities for both business-as-usual work and key projects. You’ll work closely with the Communications Lead and Senior Communications Advisor, while also taking ownership of your own workstreams.
You’ll be responsible for producing clear, audience-focused content, supporting media and stakeholder activity, and ensuring communications are delivered at the right time, through the right channels, and in the right way.
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, can work independently, and is confident managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities include
- Providing timely, practical communications advice across internal and external communications
- Supporting the development of communications plans, including stakeholder analysis, key messages, channel selection, and sequencing
- Creating and delivering high-quality content such as presentations, articles, briefings, and web and intranet content
- Writing and producing media releases and supporting the triage and monitoring of media queries
- Translating complex information into clear, plain English messaging
- Supporting communications for organisational initiatives and projects
- Producing and editing content quickly and accurately, often to tight deadlines
- Developing concepts and approaches to meet communications objectives
- Supporting the design and production of print and digital content (including use of tools such as InDesign)
- Promoting a customer-centric approach to communication across the organisation
Tō kete | What You’ll Bring
You’ll be a capable and proactive communications practitioner who enjoys both planning and delivery, and who can work confidently with a range of stakeholders.
You’ll bring:
- Around 2–3 years’ experience in a communications role, ideally within the public sector
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and tailor messages for different audiences
- Experience providing practical, operational communications advice
- Confidence working across digital channels such as intranet, web, and social media
- Experience developing and supporting communication plans
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with design tools such as InDesign (Photoshop an advantage)
- A good eye for detail and the ability to produce high-quality work under pressure
- A collaborative approach, balanced with the ability to work independently and take initiative
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people
- A high level of integrity, sound judgement, and professionalism
