Kickstart your career with APC Technical Solutions! We’re looking for a full-time Trainee/Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our Christchurch-based team, supporting the South Island region. Previous experience is advantageous, but full training will be provided!

Key responsibilities:
- Service, repair, and assemble industrial hose and fittings
- Perform on-site and in-house calibration, commissioning, and support for gas detection equipment
- Assist with assembly and servicing of bearings, transmissions, and gearboxes
- Actuate flow control valves for process and industrial systems
- Conduct steam trap inspections and efficiency testing
- Support instrumentation setup and maintenance
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver tailored technical solutions
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement

We’re not just after technical skills, we’re looking for the right attitude and potential. Here are some key attributes we value:
- Flexibility: Gas detection will be a major focus in the first several months. Hose or mechanical work may follow after training in Auckland. Some travel and overnight stays will be required.
- Attitude & Effort: We need someone who’s proactive, reliable, and willing to pitch in across all areas, gas detection, hose work, and mechanical engineering.
- Communication: Regular check-ins with management, asking for support, and offering help to the team are essential.
- Travel Readiness: Occasional out-of-town work (1–4 nights) may be required, sometimes at short notice.
- Excellent English Skills: Strong verbal and written communication is essential for both in-person and email interactions.
About you:
- Trade qualification or relevant experience in mechanical, instrumentation, or industrial services
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think on your feet
- Experience with industrial hose assemblies, gas detection systems, or similar technologies is a plus
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals
- Customer-focused with excellent communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and in a team
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy
