NZMA is looking for a Construction Tutor to lead and support international students studying our Construction Management and Quantity Surveying Level 6 diploma programmes.
About the role:
This is a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of construction professionals. You will be based on-site, working with students who are studying online and often at different stages of their learning journey. Your role is to guide, support, and connect our learners, ensuring they remain on track while creating a culture of collaborative learning and academic growth.
You’ll be more than just a subject matter expert—you’ll be a facilitator of success, a motivator, and a trusted support for learners adapting to both the construction industry and studying in New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person guidance to students studying an online Construction Management and Quantity Surveying programme.
- Effectively manage a classroom with students at varying stages of progress.
- Use classroom management techniques to ensure an engaging, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Deliver academic support and contextual advice relevant to real-world construction practices.
- Facilitate, check-ins and milestones to bring learners together.
- Support students in understanding NZ construction legislation, codes of practice, and health and safety requirements.
About you:
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to combine strong industry knowledge with confident classroom management skills and a heart for teaching.
Required Skills/Experience:
Essential
- A Level 6 or higher qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or both.
- Recent or relevant industry experience in construction project planning, organisation, and/or cost management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with English language learners.
- Understanding of New Zealand building regulations, codes, and industry standards
- Proven classroom management skills, ideally with prior tutoring or training experience
Desirable
- Experience working with international students.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms or blended learning models.
