Security Clearance Required for this role:
- Must have a Current NV2 security clearance.
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- This will be an Office based role in Canberra or Sydney locations.
- ITAR - You will be required to comply with the US International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) as the candidate may need to handle export-controlled ICT (hardware and software) products.
We're looking for an experienced Linux Technician to help shape secure, automated, and high-performance infrastructure solutions.
This opportunity is suited to an experienced Linux Technician with a strong background in Defence environments, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, infrastructure automation and secure system configuration.
What You’ll Do
- Support the development, build and implementation of Linux operating systems.
- Integrate ICT infrastructure software and business applications with Linux environments.
- Analyse, document, track and resolve complex issues affecting Linux Standard Operating Environments and integrated applications.
- Implement server-hardening measures to improve the security and resilience of Linux infrastructure.
- Develop reliable, reusable automated builds that streamline system configuration and improve operational efficiency.
- Research and assess new technologies and tools for potential organisational use.
- Create and peer-review Standard Operating Procedures, build guides and related technical documentation.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders, project teams and business areas to support successful delivery.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working in Defence as a Linux Technician.
- Strong experience supporting Linux servers and virtual systems within hyper-converged infrastructure and distributed environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience with:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including RHEL 7.x to 9.x
- Ansible
- GitLab
- YUM package management
- Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to present technical information and engage effectively with stakeholders, projects and business teams.
- Ability to obtain and maintain access to the Defence Secret Network.
- An active Negative Vetting 2 security clearance that can be maintained for the duration of the engagement.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of or experience working with SEA2273 Minerva systems.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure service and security governance frameworks, including the Australian Government Information Security Manual.
- Experience applying cybersecurity controls and practices aligned with zero-trust architecture principles.
- Knowledge of Australian Defence Force deployed environments and platforms, including their specialised networking, support and security constraints.
