Technical Officer – MessagingOn-Site

Security Clearance Required for this role:

• Must have a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance
• Must be an Australian Citizen
• Mon to Fri - office hours
• Office location in Sydney CBD

 We’re seeking a Technical Officer – Messaging to join our Maritime Operations team and provide specialist support for mission-critical IT systems that keep Defence operations running seamlessly, both ashore and deployed.

What you’ll do:

• Provide expert support for messaging infrastructure in multi-forest, distributed environments.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring system uptime under challenging conditions (including DDIL environments).
• Configure and maintain systems in line with Defence ICT security protocols.
• Manage and support Exchange, Active Directory, Message Transfer Agents, Microsoft Skype, and XMPP tools.
• Proactively patch, upgrade, and maintain Minerva systems within Defence timeframes.
• Develop SOPs, technical guides, and contingency plans for system continuity.
• Mentor and train technical staff, including ship CIS teams during set-to-work activities.
• Build, deploy, and support hardware and software solutions.
• Manage digital certificates and user accounts across Minerva environments.
• Work collaboratively with vendors and partner teams to resolve incidents and maintain SLAs.
• Participate in on-call rotations for high-priority incidents.

What we’re looking for:

• Proven experience in Defence as a Messaging Technician.
• Hands-on expertise with Exchange, Active Directory, Skype, XMPP, and messaging infrastructure.
• Strong integration skills across complex ICT systems.
• Excellent communication skills—able to work with diverse stakeholders and document technical solutions clearly.
• Experience supporting secure, regulated environments.
• Previous Minerva system experience.

Highly regarded skills:

• Exposure to Fortinet, Cisco, HYCU, Titus, Ivanti, Red Hat, Tanium, Carbon Black, Elastic monitoring or related technologies.
• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
