Security Clearance Required for this role:
- Must have a Current NV2 security clearance.
- The role will be located in either Sydney CBD or Canberra offices.
As a Technical Support Officer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing the performance of systems that enable Defence operations — both on base and in deployed conditions.
This is a hands-on technical position requiring deep expertise in Microsoft environments, problem-solving under challenging conditions, and a proactive approach to maintaining secure and resilient systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical support for mission-critical IT systems, including deployed and DDIL (Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, or Limited) environments.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues quickly to ensure system availability and reliability.
- Manage and support messaging and collaboration infrastructures across multi-forest domains.
- Integrate and maintain ICT infrastructure components and software applications to Defence standards.
- Patch, upgrade, and maintain systems in line with the Defence Patch Management Plan.
- Create and maintain technical artefacts including SOPs, build guides, and configurations.
- Manage user accounts and permissions across key systems.
- Mentor and train on-site technical staff, contributing to overall team capability.
- Participate in on-call rotations and collaborate with vendor and partner support teams to resolve incidents.
- Support system builds, deployments, and training of ship CIS teams during set-to-work activities.
Required Skills & Experience
- Advanced knowledge of:
- Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Skype for Business
- Citrix Virtual Desktop Administration
- Hypervisor Maintenance & Administration
- Experience with XMPP chat tools, Lotus Domino, and VoIP technologies.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proven ability to document, communicate, and collaborate effectively in complex technical environments.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with tools and platforms such as Fortinet, Cisco, HYCU, Titus, Liquidware, Ivanti, Red Hat, Tanium, Netbox, Carbon Black, and Elastic Monitoring.
- Experience working within secure Defence ICT environments and prior exposure to Minerva systems.
- A proactive, methodical problem-solver able to manage competing priorities and maintain system integrity under pressure.
