We’re seeking a Lead Technical Officer to manage and mentor a skilled support team, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of systems that are vital to Defence operations — both at sea and ashore.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and develop a support team delivering advanced technical support for critical ICT systems in deployed Defence environments.
  • Oversee the management of complex technical issues, ensuring timely resolutions within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Ensure ICT operations remain functional in DDIL (Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, or Limited bandwidth) environments through innovative solutions.
  • Manage system security, configuration compliance, and patching in line with Defence ICT standards.
  • Oversee messaging infrastructure, multi-forest Active Directory environments, and integration of complex ICT applications.
  • Act as the escalation point for high-priority incidents and vendor-related issues.
  • Provide mentorship and training to technical staff, including ship-based teams during set-to-work activities.
  • Review and approve Standard Operating Procedures, build guides, and technical documentation.
  • Support incident response, certificate management, and Minerva system maintenance.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong leadership experience in support or service desk environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory & Skype Administration
  • Citrix Virtual Desktop Administration
  • Hypervisor Maintenance & Administration
  • Experience with XMPP chat tools and VoIP technologies.
  • In-depth understanding of ITIL processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to collaborate and mentor.
  • Knowledge of tools and platforms such as Fortinet, Cisco, HYCU, Titus, Liquidware, Ivanti, Red Hat, Tanium, Netbox, Carbon Black, and Elastic monitoring products.
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).

Highly regarded

  • Previous experience with Minerva systems or within Defence ICT environments.
  • Ability to work in highly regulated, secure environments with strong problem-solving skills.
