You’ll act as the technical authority for MQ across the mainframe environment, working closely with infrastructure, storage, and application teams to ensure optimal performance, availability, and scalability.
This role combines hands-on engineering, strategic input, and stakeholder engagement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical depth and influencing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead installation, configuration, performance tuning, and monitoring of MQ environments
- Provide expert troubleshooting and root cause analysis across production systems
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure solutions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system stability and reduce costs
- Support high availability and performance optimisation across MQ, IMS, and DB2 environments
- Contribute to mainframe strategy and platform evolution
- Mentor teams and provide technical leadership across the broader organisation
What You’ll Bring
- Deep expertise in IBM MQ (installation, tuning, capacity planning, performance optimisation)
- Strong knowledge of z/OS environments
- Proven experience supporting enterprise-scale mainframe systems
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills in complex production environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-team collaboration experience
- Ability to translate business needs into practical, high-quality technical solutions
Nice to Have
- Experience with IMS and/or DB2 systems programming
- Knowledge of end-to-end banking or enterprise platforms
- Exposure to Assembler programming and SMP/E
- Familiarity with project delivery methodologies
