It serves a population of approximately 102,000, performs over 6,500 procedures a year and has over 19,000 inpatient episodes and 30,000 Emergency Department attendances a year and approximately 700 births per year. We have onsite radiology, pathology and blood bank service. NHW provides a wide range of acute specialist medical and surgical services, an emergency department, critical care unit (ICU, HDU, CCU), obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, specialised aged care, medical oncology services, community rehabilitation, inpatient, community, aged and psycho-geriatric mental health services.
The Medical Lead – Innovation and Models of Care is a senior medical leadership position embedded within operational services, responsible for driving forward-thinking, system-wide improvements in how care is delivered. This role plays a critical part in shaping and implementing innovative models of care that enhance patient flow, improve access, and ensure consistency across care pathways within NHW and its partner services.
Working across the Emergency Department, acute, sub-acute, community, and primary care interfaces, the Medical Lead will design, implement, and embed contemporary models of care that reduce delays and unwarranted variation. A strong focus of the role is to improve timely access to services while strengthening clinical engagement across NHW, outlying hospitals, community health providers, and general practitioners.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in enhancing both patient and staff experience by fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. They will contribute to whole-of-system solutions that address demand and capacity challenges, ensuring sustainable, high-quality care delivery across the health network. This is a unique opportunity to lead meaningful change and influence the future direction of integrated healthcare services.
