About the Role:
Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is seeking an outstanding nursing and midwifery leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (CNMO). This pivotal role provides strategic and professional leadership across nursing, midwifery across the health service.
As a key executive, the CNMO will drive excellence in professional standards, workforce capability, and clinical outcomes, while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. The CNMO oversees a directorate with a budget exceeding $16.7 million and a workforce of approximately 100 FTE.
In addition to leading nursing and midwifery services, the CNMO holds executive responsibility for Clinical Governance, Education and Research, and Residential Aged Care portfolios—ensuring integration of evidence-based practice, contemporary models of care, and strong clinical governance across all domains.

- Operational Director – Education and Research
- Director of Nursing – Aged Care
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for nursing and midwifery across the organisation.
- Lead and strengthen clinical governance frameworks to ensure high standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
- Oversee education, training, and research functions that build workforce capability and professional excellence.
- Provide leadership and oversight of residential aged care operations to ensure person-centred, high-quality care.
- Partner with executive colleagues to deliver organisational priorities and foster an engaged, values-driven workforce.
About You:
You are an accomplished nurse or midwife leader with substantial experience at a senior or executive level within a complex health environment. You demonstrate strategic insight, exceptional leadership, and a commitment to advancing nursing and midwifery practice. Your ability to influence, innovate, and lead through collaboration will be key to your success.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in leadership, management, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in executive leadership, clinical governance, and organisational strategy.
