We’re looking for an experienced Senior Planner to join our Resource Consents team and play a key role in guiding sustainable growth across the Nelson region.

About the role | Kō tēnei tūranga mahi

In this senior role, you’ll process a wide range of resource consents, provide mentoring and technical leadership to planners, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality, timely outcomes for our community.

As a Senior Planner, you will:

  • Process complex resource consents in accordance with the Resource Management Act and associated legislation
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and professional development support to planners
  • Act as an expert witness at hearings and the Environment Court
  • Support continuous improvement of systems, processes and customer outcomes
  • Step into the Acting Team Leader role when required

About you | Ko ngā pūmanawa ō

You’re an experienced planning professional who brings sound judgement, strong technical capability, and a collaborative leadership style. You’ll also have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in planning, resource management or a related discipline (professional membership preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience processing complex resource consents
  • Strong knowledge of the Resource Management Act and related legislation
  • Experience with hearings processes and expert evidence
  • Proven mentoring or leadership experience
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, including growing capability in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
