We are now seeking an an enthusiastic, friendly, and customer‑focused team member to join our library team on a part‑time basis.

About the role | Kō tēnei tūranga mahi

Nelson Public Libraries are busy, dynamic environments, at the hub of our community. We are seeking an enthusiastic, friendly customer focused team member to join our team. This role works an average of 36 hours per week, over a four week roster. The roster will include work over two weekends in every four.

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of delivering outstanding customer service across Nelson Public Libraries’ branches. You’ll assist a diverse range of customers with their library needs, helping to create a friendly, inclusive, and well-organised environment. Alongside front-line service, you’ll support key administrative tasks, process and maintain library collections, and contribute to the smooth running of our spaces and services. This role is primarily based at Nightingale library with some shifts at Elma Turner Library.

  • A good level of digital competence and confidence across a range of technology
  • Effective communication skills, both in person and written
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Good judgement and attention to detail
  • The ability to adapt and make improvements part of every day work
  • Initiative, prioritisation and time management skills
  • A desire to collaborate, learn and share knowledge
