Collections Officer

SELFCO are looking for a Collections Officer!

SELFCO is a growing vehicle and equipment finance specialist supporting small‑to‑medium enterprises across Australia. We’re now looking for a Collections Officer who understands the realities of commercial and asset finance and enjoys being part of a collaborative, office‑based team.

The Opportunity

This is a full‑time, office‑based role, requiring attendance five days per week. You’ll be embedded in the team, learning through hands‑on exposure, shadowing experienced colleagues and building strong working relationships across the business.

You’ll manage early‑stage arrears (1–60 days) within our specialist asset finance portfolio, working closely with brokers and SME customers to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Proactively managing allocated arrears queues through outbound calling
• Reviewing payouts, contracts and customer statements to understand account position
• Handling customer complaints within a collections environment, with professionalism and empathy
• Supporting customers facing real‑world commercial pressures such as fuel, maintenance and operating costs
• Working across broker‑introduced asset finance structures, not standard consumer lending
• Shadowing and learning from a Senior Collections Officer, with clear development pathways into more complex work

This role offers genuine exposure to complexity, supported by strong coaching and day‑to‑day collaboration in the office.

What Success Looks Like

You’re confident on the phone, commercially minded and comfortable navigating challenging conversations with SME customers.

You’ll likely bring:

• 1–3 years’ experience in collections, credit or a related financial services role
• Experience in asset finance or commercial lending (broker exposure highly regarded)
• Strong negotiation, problem‑solving and complaint‑handling skills
• Exposure to truck and trailer finance or similar equipment finance (desirable)
• A willingness to learn, take feedback on board and grow your capability over time
