MRAEL have partnered with Peabody Energy to offer an Electrical Apprenticeship, commencing January 2027, hosted at Centurion Mine.

Owned and operated by Peabody Energy, Centurion Mine is building a high-performing team committed to setting new benchmarks in underground coal mining. Centurion has now transitioned into longwall production, marking a significant step in establishing a world-class underground operation as one of Queensland's newest underground longwall operations.

About the Role

As an Apprentice, you will follow a structured, industry-specific training plan. You will learn on the job from industry experts while completing your Certificate III in Electrotechnology. This fixed-term position operates on a balanced lifestyle roster, and we strongly encourage local region residents to apply.

You will gain exposure to a range of underground electrical equipment and systems while developing a strong understanding of safe work practices, fault finding, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Complete trade training, workplace competencies and apprenticeship requirements
  • Assist with the inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of underground electrical equipment and systems
  • Support planned maintenance activities and breakdown repairs to minimise equipment downtime
  • Develop skills in electrical fault finding, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Learn to work safely with high-voltage and low-voltage equipment under supervision
  • Comply with site procedures, statutory requirements and electrical safety standards
  • Work collaboratively with the electrical maintenance team to support reliable mining operations

Who are we seeking?

In the fixed-term position, the successful candidate will show an ability to work safely in an underground mining environment, demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, be motivated to learn and develop new skills, and have the ability to work constructively within a team.

The positions will be offered on a roster arrangement. Local residents are encouraged to apply.

Both mature age applicants and students currently completing Year 12 are welcome to apply. If Year 12 has already been completed, the minimum requirement is that candidates achieved a Pass in Pre-vocational English and Mathematics or possess equivalent qualifications.

  • Successfully completed Year 12 (or equivalent)
  •  Previous employment experience demonstrating reliability, commitment, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
  • Current driver's licence (or ability to obtain one)
  • Must reside within the Moranbah, Mackay, or coalfields region.
