The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver critical defence projects within a highly regulated environment. This role requires strong project delivery skills, commercial acumen, and experience working within Foreign Military Sales (FMS) frameworks. Based in Melbourne, you will work with a diverse team across government and industry partners, ensuring successful project outcomes aligned with Defence requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage, and deliver defence projects within scope, time, and budget constraints
  • Engage and liaise with key stakeholders including Defence, commercial partners, and international suppliers
  • Oversee the development and execution of commercial strategies, including contract negotiations and vendor management
  • Coordinate activities related to Foreign Military Sales (FMS), including liaison with international stakeholders and compliance with US export controls (e.g. ITAR, EAR)
  • Ensure projects meet Defence governance, risk, and assurance standards
  • Prepare and present regular project reports, status updates, and risk assessments
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and manage performance to achieve project milestones
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in program management practices

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

·        Related tertiary (Business, Law, Engineering etc.) or project management qualifications (or commensurate professional experience)  

·        Proven experience as a Project Manager in the Defence industry or complex Government programs

·        Strong understanding of Defence project governance, procurement policies, and acquisition lifecycle (e.g. CASG or similar environments)

·        Demonstrated commercial acumen including experience with large-scale contracts and supplier engagement

·        Experience in drafting contractual documentation 

·        Demonstrated experience in tender evaluation. 

·        Experience working on or with Foreign Military Sales (FMS) projects is highly desirable

·        Solid knowledge of international defence regulations including ITAR/EAR compliance

·        Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills

·        Ability to work autonomously and lead cross-functional teams under pressure

·        Relevant project management certifications (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, or MSP) advantageous
