 The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Communication Systems Engineer with demonstrated experience in Electromagnetic Capability (EMC) and/or Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) to support critical Defence projects in Brisbane. As part of a Managed Services Provider supporting the Department of Defence, this role will see you working across multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver assured electromagnetic performance within complex systems and subsystems.

You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, Defence clients, and third-party vendors to manage EMC/EMI risks throughout the systems engineering lifecycle – from requirements and design, through to verification and compliance testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide EMC/EMI expertise across systems engineering activities including requirements, design assurance, integration, and testing.
  • Undertake EMC analysis and mitigation planning for Defence platforms or systems.
  • Support the development of system architectures with EMC/EMI considerations.
  • Conduct or oversee EMC testing, verification and validation (V&V) activities.
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation in line with Defence standards (e.g., MIL-STD-461, DEF STANs, AS/NZS standards).
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure electromagnetic compatibility and compliance with Defence capability requirements.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and the management of electromagnetic hazards (EMH).
  • Liaise with certification bodies to support compliance and accreditation processes.

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

  • Active NV1 Security Clearance (essential).
  • Degree-qualified in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Systems Engineering).
  • Demonstrated experience in EMC/EMI design, analysis, or testing in Defence or complex systems environments.
  • Strong understanding of EMC/EMI compliance frameworks (e.g., MIL-STD-461, CISPR, AS/NZS).
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles, V&V, and the One Defence Capability System (ODCS).
  • Excellent technical writing and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working with Defence or CASG programs.
  • Familiarity with Defence safety and certification processes.
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., CST, ANSYS HFSS) or EMC test equipment.
  • Chartered Engineer (CPEng) or working toward.
