About the Role

Monford Group are seeking a highly experienced Engineering Manager who will be responsible for providing overall technical leadership and engineering management across the full lifecycle of EPC projects — including high-voltage substations, utility-scale solar (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) — from concept development, feasibility studies, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and project handover.

About You

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following; 

  • Have at least 10 years’ experience in a similar leadership role managing complex, high value EPC, construction or renewable energy projects
  • Strong experience in the renewable energy sector, with utility-scale solar (PV) farm, battery energy storage (BESS) and high-voltage substation project experience essential.
  • Demonstrated experience across full project lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating electrical, mechanical and civil/structural engineering disciplines, with an understanding of controls, protection, communications and commissioning interfaces.
  • Demonstrated experience in substation design and delivery up to 330 kV, including primary and secondary systems, switchyard layout, earthing and lightning protection, protection and control schemes, SCADA and HV/MV reticulation.
  • Extensive experience in the coordination, review, and completion of engineering design within the construction industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with PV and BESS plant design — array and inverter/PCS configuration, DC and AC collection, yield and loss modelling, transformer and reactive-plant sizing, and BESS enclosure, HVAC, fire and safety interfaces.
  • Experience delivering grid-connected assets, including connection studies, generator performance standards, NSP/DNSP and AEMO submissions, and R2/R3 compliance and hold-point testing.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors and other project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting tendering and pre-contracts activities, including tender design development, technical bid evaluation, procurement and vendor engagement, and engineering input to estimates and delivery strategy.
  • Have strong leadership skills and exceptional ability to lead a high functioning multidiscipline engineering team and apply your flexible thinking and solutions when faced with challenges Work in fast paced team and being able to prioritise tasks.
  • Advanced level proficiency in relevant engineering software and design systems, including power system analysis and modelling tools (e.g. ETAP, PSS®E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory), PV yield modelling (e.g. PVsyst, Helioscope) and CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Revit). 

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline, with Electrical / Power Systems Engineering highly desirable. 
  • Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Australia is highly desirable.
  • Relevant professional registration or eligibility for registration within applicable Australia jurisdiction is highly regarded.
  • Formal training or demonstrated competency in high-voltage design and safety (e.g. HV switching, AS 2067, AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033 and AS/NZS 5139) is highly desirable.
