The opportunity

Mipac is rapidly growing and diversifying. Because of this, we are on the lookout for an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer to join our busy operations team. This position is dedicated to supporting our diverse industry clients.

As one of Mipac’s Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Engineers, your responsibilities will be diverse and your day-to-day tasks varied. From mentoring junior engineers to developing technical solutions and collaborating onsite with our global clients, this is a role with plenty of opportunities to grow your skillset while being supported by approachable management and an inclusive, diverse team.

On any given day in this role, you may:

  • Maintain a strong focus on workplace health and safety standards, ensuring adherence to all relevant Acts, Regulations, and policies.
  • Develop and implement Instrument engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and practices, and audit compliance with these standards and regulations.
  • Develop and implement Electrical engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and practices, and audit compliance with these standards and regulations.
  • Foster innovation in electrical and instrument engineering design and provide clear instructions to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Undertake electrical and instrument engineering investigations, designs, and calculations, and prepare and maintain electrical and instrument engineering documentation to ensure quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.
  • Monitor and manage other engineers, designers, and drafting employees, ensuring compliance with technical and quality assurance standards.
  • Work with project managers and team members to review workflow issues and provide guidance as to what workflows to follow to achieve high quality project deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Participate in engineering peer groups, multidisciplinary project teams, and client interactions, evaluating new technologies and methods for potential application, and mentoring and training junior engineers.
  • Assist in business development activities as required, maintaining and expanding the company's client base through exemplary project performance.

About you

Ideally, you will have:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree recognized by Engineers Australia.
  • 10+ years’ experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering within the mining and minerals processing industry.
  • Ability to work under pressure without supervision.
  • Experience in mentoring and leading other engineers.
  • Experience in brownfield projects and change management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into engineering designs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Proficiency in various aspects of low voltage systems:
  • Design of motor control centers, distribution boards, and power distribution.
  • Field cabling design.
  • Earthing design.
  • Arc flash calculations and safety design.
  • As-building existing installations.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and other engineering documents.
  • Capability to produce engineering documents such as technical reports, procurement specifications, data sheets, commissioning plans, and inspection test plans.
  • Onsite commissioning experience.
