We are currently recruiting a Communication Manager - Naarm Way Project, on a part time basis (3 days a week), 18-month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Head of Media & Communications, the purpose of the role is the manage external and precinct communications related to the delivery, opening and post-opening of Naarm Way.
Melbourne Airport is addressing growing traffic congestion by building an express loop road network, which will separate public traffic from commercial transport operators. The two-stage project (Naarm Way) will create a more streamlined exit from the Tullamarine Freeway to all four terminals, meaning travellers will no longer need to navigate roundabouts or traffic lights to access the pick-up and drop-off zones and parking areas.

Key responsibilities:
The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage delivery of external communications related to Naarm Way
- Act as the primary contact between the APAC Communications team and Naarm Way delivery
- Identify potential project milestones for proactive external communications on Naarm Way
- Identify potential reputation risks and mitigations
- Respond to external media queries with timely, high-quality responses
- Work with marketing and digital teams to ensure consistent public messaging
- Provide support to the business during crisis situations
Manage precinct communications related to Naarm Way
- Work with Naarm Way delivery team to plan and deliver targeted communications to stakeholders across the Melbourne Airport precinct
Develop and enhance media and stakeholder relationships
- Build on APAC’s strong relationships with media, business and community organisations to support delivery of Naarm Way.
Support Change management
- Develop and implement strategies to support changes to passenger, staff and stakeholder journeys
Support APAC Media and Communications
- Support delivery of other APAC communications on on-call roster as required
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated experience in writing clear, concise copy for media or customer-facing organisations
- Capability to work well under pressure both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to foster strong relationships with a range of internal/external stakeholders
- Ability to work both proactively and reactively and to make recommendations on appropriate courses of action to ensure timely and appropriate resolution
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities
- Strong understanding of media and digital landscape, social media and opportunities for communication
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
- Understanding of CALD communications
- Tertiary qualification in Communications or Journalism
- Experience managing media in issues-rich environments
- Experience working across major infrastructure projects would be highly desirable
