Melbourne Airport is seeking GIS Analysts to join our Planning, Infrastructure & Environment – Digital Engineering team. We have two opportunities available, suited to candidates ranging from developing / entry-level through to more experienced GIS Analysts. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of one of Australia’s most significant infrastructure precincts and support the development of Melbourne Airport’s geospatial capability.

Working under the guidance of the GIS Manager, this role will play a key part in maintaining enterprise GIS datasets, delivering spatial analysis and mapping products, and supporting operational teams and major infrastructure projects across the airport, including airfield, utilities, property and capital works programs.

Key responsibilities include:

Responsibilities will vary depending on experience, with opportunities to take on broader ownership of spatial analysis, data management and project support as capability grows.

Operational & Project Support

  • Respond to requests for geospatial information from internal stakeholders, consultants and contractors
  • Produce spatial datasets, maps and analysis to support operational and project activities
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, planners and contractors to ensure spatial accuracy and alignment with Melbourne Airport standards
  • Provide GIS support across construction, utilities, facilities, property and operational projects

Geospatial Data Management

  • Maintain and update enterprise GIS datasets, spatial layers and metadata
  • Support the management of key datasets including airfield pavements, utilities, buildings, property parcels and infrastructure assets
  • Conduct data validation, cleaning and integration from sources such as CAD, survey data, BIM and asset systems
  • Ensure all spatial data meets Melbourne Airport data standards

Mapping & Visualisation

  • Develop web maps, dashboards and GIS applications using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online
  • Produce high-quality maps, plans and visualisations for internal stakeholders
  • Provide cartographic support to project and operational teams

Spatial Analysis & Reporting

  • Perform spatial analysis to support operational planning and decision-making
  • Develop repeatable spatial workflows and automation processes where appropriate

GIS Support

  • Provide support to internal users and assist with troubleshooting GIS issues
  • Support system upgrades, testing and improvements to GIS solutions across the organisation

 

The successful candidates will have:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in GIS, Geospatial Science, Geography, Surveying or a related field
  • Experience working with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online or QGIS
  • Understanding of geospatial data formats, projections and data management workflows
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high data quality
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Desirable

  • Experience within aviation, infrastructure, construction or utilities environments
  • Exposure to automation tools such as FME, Python, SQL or Arcade scripting
  • Experience working with CAD to GIS workflows
  • Exposure to mobile data collection tools such as Field Maps or Survey123
  • Familiarity with asset management systems or digital engineering environments
