We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a seasoned and proactive Airfield Program Director to join our Aviation team.
The purpose of the role is to provide end to end development and delivery leadership by identifying the right capital projects, strong design management, commercial rigour with smart and active in procurement, cost control and management, and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership
- Lead and manage respective airfield program managers in delivery of capital projects within accountable program
- Ensure program team is well engaged across wider APAM business
- Ensure compliance with APAM reporting and governance requirements
- Support the Head of Airport Development in delivery of capital plan and engagement with stakeholder groups – internal and external
- Drive program teams with focus across key areas of Capital Plan Development, Design Management,
- Procurement, Cost Control and Management and Delivery Management
Capital Plan Development
- Work across respective Business Units to develop a rolling capital program of works to support both
- Engage with BU’s to identify and outline scope, timing, cost and business benefit of proposed projects
- Engage with other Program teams to ensure high level coordination of respective programs with Head of Airport Development seek BU and SLT endorsement of plan
- Work with PMO timelines to ensure Capital Plan updates are completed to meet Business requirements
- Develop an approvals pipeline that sets out relevant approvals milestones to meet capital plan timelines
- Ensure Business Cases/ Investment Committee/ Board Submissions are of an acceptable standard and are clear in identification of business benefit, commercial agreement and schedule
Design Management
- Ensure project brief’s are developed and agreed with stakeholders to enable desing activities to commence.
- Ensure selection of consultants appropriate and balanced across consultant panel and other programs
- Ensure programs teams are driving proactive management of the design team to make sure APAM requirements are met
- Review designs to ensure designs have a strong focus on Customer Experience in all passenger facing designs
- Ensure design milestones are being met to support on time delivery of plan
- Ensure where possible design thinking incorporates, where appropriate, off site manufacture and other innovation that can provide benefit
- Lead and support program managers in active management of stakeholders – Internal and External
- Support Program Teams to ensure APAM governance and reporting requirements are implemented and met Procurement, Cost Control and Management
- Ensure the right program and project budgets are developed and updated through the Program/ project lifecycle
- Ensure program is delivered within approved funding limits and coordinate any additional/ further funding requirements
- Ensure the right procurement approach is selected for the respective program/ projects and drive value through the procurement process with appropriate risk allocation and commercial terms
- Ensure a proactive approach to cost control and management across program and respective projects
- Ensure cost plans are aligned to agreed APAM benchmarks and cost planning standards
Delivery Management
- Ensure Safety is always front of mind across respective programs both internally and with our external consultants and contractors – Target Zero.
- Ensure the program team is focus on delivery to agreed project milestones.
- Ensure quality of product is embedded throughout project teams and we are driving delivery of a high quality product.
Safety & Security
- Actively promote a safe and secure culture for staff, service providers and customers
- Actively promote a safe and secure culture
- Participate in safety audits and respond to findings where appropriate
- Support implementation of Development and Delivery safety pillars
The Successful Candidate will have:
- Degree qualified in related discipline, Construction, Engineering, or equivalent relevant tertiary qualification; and/ or substantial experience within this field minimum 15 years.
- Have extensive end to end experience in leading built environment capital projects in a 24/7 complex operational environment.
- Aviation and Airfield projects management and leadership essential.
- Experienced in leading programs of multiple projects concurrently to meet agreed timelines
- Experienced in leading multi-disciplinary design teams through the project lifecycle
- Strong financial management and commercial acumen.
- Experience in construction procurement methodologies and strong interpersonal and relationship skills need to be able to communicate at all levels internally and externally including clear and concise communications to senior management and executives.
- Experience in anticipating problems and proactively mitigating potential issues.
- The ability to tailor communication methods and practices to the relevant stakeholder audience.
- Proven ability to influence third parties (internally and externally) in a high-pressure environment.
