We currently have an exciting new opportunity for an agile and experienced Safety Business Partner - Construction to join our Safety team.

Reporting to the Senior Safety Business Partner - Construction, the role supports the effective implementation and monitoring of the APAC Safety Management Standard across APAM construction projects. It provides expert guidance and practical support to project teams to identify and manage occupational health and safety (OHS) risks, ensuring compliance with Victorian and Commonwealth OHS legislation. Additionally, the position assists the Senior Safety Business Partner in implementing the APAM safety management system and completing related administrative functions to uphold safety standards and drive continuous improvement

Key responsibilities:

The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Safety Assurance

  •  Monitor construction project’s OHS practices performance by attending inspections.
  • Ensure appropriate safety support is in place and coach relevant stakeholders in effective safety management.

Consultation and Communication

  •  Collaborate with APAM Managers and Business Unit stakeholders to identify and correct potential health and safety risks.
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders and contractors to enhance safety performance by creating a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Strong communication and effective enquiry to influence to improve safety standards.

Safety Management Systems

  •  Comprehension of APAM Safety Management System and initiate processes as required.
  • Administrative tasks associated with implementation and record management of APAM Safety Management System.
  • Review contractor Safety Management Plans for compliance with OHS and APAM safety requirements.

Safety Reporting

  •  Work with APAM project teams and external contractors to ensure incidents are reported, investigated and effective corrective/preventative actions are applied
  • Assist with collation of safety data and monthly reporting.

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Diploma or degree qualification in OHS/WHS
  • Root Cause Analysis accreditation (ICAM or TapRoot)
  • Minimum 5 years in a construction OHS advisor role
  • Knowledge and experience in applying OHS principles in high-risk environments
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic environment, operating with a high level of autonomy while maintaining support from key stakeholders
  • Experience in incident investigation and associated record management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
