We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Government Relations Coordinator to join our Public Affairs team.

Melbourne Airport is in a transformational period of growth and major project delivery. The pipeline of major projects such as the third runway requires ongoing government and stakeholder engagement to build awareness and understanding of the project conditions.

The Government Relations Coordinator will play a key role in delivering the Public Exhibition consultation for the Master Plan 2027. The role will support the Government Relations Manager on major projects and the broader Public Affairs team by working with central agencies, departments, MPs, Minister’s and Councillors. Securing project approvals requires ongoing engagement with regulators, departments and central agencies as well as parliamentarians.  

The role will help coordinate the briefing notes, presentations, and prepare timely responses to Minister’s, MPs, councils and industry stakeholders to ensure Melbourne Airport continues to maintain a social license to grow.

Key responsibilities:

The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate regular, high-level interaction with federal, state, and local government agencies, industry bodies, and community groups
  • Support the Community Aviation Consultation Group (CACG) and related forums to respond to stakeholder enquiries regarding aircraft noise, planning, and operations.
  • Assist in managing compliance with federal and state regulations, including assisting with public exhibition of Major Development Plans (MDP) and airport infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare briefings, consultation papers, analysis and reports for government and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor changes and policy shifts that relate to aviation, infrastructure, transport.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, Law, Communications, International Relations, Business, or a related field. 
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, or corporate affairs, ideally in infrastructure or aviation sectors. 
  • Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated ability to manage high-level stakeholder relations, and experience in drafting policy documentation.
  • Experience in navigating government and regulatory approvals and planning frameworks at the Federal or state level.
  • Previous experience in managing high-impact, sensitive community or public interest issues.
