Position Summary
The Nurse Unit Manager – Avoca Campus is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operational management of the Avoca Campus. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care while overseeing clinical performance, workforce management, and service coordination in alignment with the goals of Maryborough District Health Service.

The Nurse Unit Manager plays a vital role in supporting staff development, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the Avoca Campus operates efficiently and effectively within a quality and clinical governance framework.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Provide leadership and direction to staff across the Avoca campus.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Nursing and the MDHS Leadership Team to ensure high-quality care and effective facility operations.
- Empower and support nursing staff through professional development, education, and performance management.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and safe rostering practices aligned with legislative requirements.
- Lead recruitment and retention strategies that support workforce stability and capability.
Clinical Care & Service Delivery
- Ensure residents receive person-centred, clinically and culturally appropriate care.
- Promote collaborative care planning and shared decision-making with residents and their carers.
- Implement best-practice admission, discharge, and care coordination strategies to meet resident and organisational needs.
- Ensure care and services are customer-focused and responsive to individual needs.
Quality & Safety
- Drive continuous improvement by monitoring and enhancing quality indicators and resident outcomes.
- Foster a culture of openness and learning from clinical incidents and near misses.
- Support and maintain clinical governance systems that ensure high standards of care and resident safety.
- Facilitate compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and accreditation requirements.
Strategic & Financial Oversight
- Support the development of business plans to improve service integration and clinical coordination.
- Monitor and manage the clinical and financial performance of the campus.
- Ensure effective communication with internal and external stakeholders regarding key organisational activities and changes.
