Nurse Unit Manager at Avoca aged care


This position offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team, contribute to service improvement, and support the health needs of the local community.

• Provide clinical and professional leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high quality, person centred nursing care that meets professional standards, legislative requirements, organizational policy, and the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

• Manage and coordinate operational and workforce requirements of the unit, including rostering, performance development, staff wellbeing, and effective use of financial, physical and human resources to meet service delivery priorities.

• Lead clinical governance, quality and risk management activities, including monitoring patient outcomes, responding to incidents and complaints, supporting accreditation processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and safety.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term a year of contract with EFT 0.6 part time, commencing mid-July 2026 until mid-June 2027.

Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant after a year when finishes the fixed term contract, whether EFT 0.4 or casual RN1 position.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate patient care across acute, community and emergency settings

• Manage human, financial and physical resources within budget

• Monitor, analyse and report on service performance and activity

• Lead staff performance, development, coaching and mentoring

• Drive quality improvement, clinical governance, WHS and safety initiatives

• Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

Skills and Experience

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse (registration must be current and maintained)

• Relevant postgraduate qualifications (desirable)

• Demonstrated leadership experience in aged care settings. 

• Advanced knowledge of contemporary nursing management, including clinical governance, risk management, legislation and evidence based practice

• Strong decision making, problem solving and business acumen to manage resources and service performance

• Proven ability to lead, coach and develop staff, and manage performance effectively. 

• Highly developed communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders across disciplines
