Mansfield District Hospital – Permanent Part-Time
Monday - Friday 30 hours per week
Are you an experienced culinary professional with a passion for leadership, high-quality food service, and community care? Mansfield District Hospital is seeking a Cook to be part of our catering team and ensure the delivery of nutritious, safe, and well-presented meals to patients, staff, and the wider community.
About the Role
Reporting to the Domestic and Food Services Manager and Head Chef, this hands-on leadership role is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of catering staff and the smooth operation of our food service. You’ll play a vital part in maintaining the highest standards of food safety and presentation, while ensuring meals meet nutritional requirements and support patient wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and assist with meal preparation for patients, staff, Meals on Wheels, and special functions
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP, Food Act)
- Roster management and staff scheduling
- Ordering and stock control
- Conduct bi-annual menu reviews in collaboration with the Chef/DFSM
- Contribute to staff training, development of procedures, and continuous improvement
- Step in to cover shifts as required in the absence of the Chef or Cook
About You
You’re a motivated team leader with strong culinary experience and an eye for detail. You thrive in a collaborative environment and take pride in delivering food that supports health, comfort, and dignity.
Essential Criteria
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (minimum), Certificate IV preferred
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (including HLTFSE001, HLTFSE005, HLTFSE007 or equivalent)
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a commercial kitchen
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of HACCP and Food Act compliance
- IT skills for ordering, rostering, and documentation
- Current Working with Children Check, valid Driver Licence, and Flu Vaccination evidence
Desirable
- Experience in a hospital or healthcare catering environment
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery
