We provide exceptional opportunities for our employees to perform, grow and succeed through extensive training and career development. Our teams work together and support one another to achieve individual, team and firm-wide goals.

Backed by a national team of over 450 staff located in Brisbane and Sydney, McCullough Robertson combines a century of experience with a modern, collaborative approach, making us a big firm, without the attitude.

 About us

As a fiercely independent Australian grown law firm, we deliver more than just outcomes. After 100 years in commercial law, we continue to grow and evolve. We strive towards a diverse and inclusive environment that supports our values and creates a collaborative and innovative experience for our people, our clients and our community partners.

Our goal is for each and every one of our employees to build a rewarding and sustainable career, rich with opportunities, fulfilling relationships, and a sense of achievement.

McCullough Robertson’s Sydney Summer clerkship program

Our well‑established Sydney Summer Clerkship runs for eight weeks from November 2026 to February 2027 and is open to penultimate‑year law students. Across the program, you will:

  • Work on real matters for impressive clients, not just back‑room research
  • Rotate through all of our Sydney legal teams to gain broad, hands‑on experience
  • Collaborate closely with partners and senior lawyers who are invested in your development
  • Take part in curated training sessions delivered by partners, lawyers and business services specialists

Why you should Be here to unlock opportunities that go beyond the clerkship

We don’t see this as a summer job; we see it as the start of your career with us. As a clerk, you will benefit from:

  • Training and development – Our Clerkship Program offers you support through a collaborative learning and development framework, complemented by hands on work experience. Additionally, you will work closely with our partners and senior lawyers on complex and high-profile matters.
  • Career advancement opportunities – Clerks may be considered for ongoing casual opportunities and our Graduate Program.
  • Diversity and Inclusion – Our five diversity pillars (Gender, Family and Flexibility, Cultural Diversity, LGBTIQ+ and Disability and Access) are embedded in how we work, so you can bring your whole self to work.
  • Community – Get involved in pro bono and community partner initiatives that allow you to contribute to real social change.

If you return as a graduate, you will have access to:

  • Paid education benefits – we will fund your PLT, provide study leave and even offer a HECS benefit to help you pay down your student debt sooner.
  • Business attire allowance – we will also provide a one-off clothing allowance to assist you with purchasing business attire.

Inclusion and Diversity

We are a leader in diversity and inclusion and are committed to creating an environment where our employees want to come to work.

An award-winning law firm, we have received the prestigious Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation for 15 consecutive year and been recognised as a Gold Tier Small Employer at the 2026 Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards.
