Careers and Mentoring Specialist
We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Careers and Mentoring Specialist to join our team, supporting a broad range of clients through complex challenges as they undertake their Australian Apprenticeship. This is a full-time opportunity, with the successful candidate splitting their time between our shared working spaces, home office and site visits as required. The successful applicants will be supporting our Australian Apprentices in Queensland.

Mas National are an Apprentice Connect Provider and are contracted by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) to deliver Australian Apprenticeship Support Services (AASS) services across QLD, NSW, ACT, SA and TAS. Our knowledgeable and passionate team support employers, stakeholders and individuals from pre-commencement through to completion of an apprenticeship or traineeship.
About the role
Mas Careers and Mentoring Specialists provide advice to prospective Australian Apprentices and support to active Australian Apprentices. Mas Career and Mentoring Specialists work with individuals to overcome workplace and personal barriers that may impact employment & training. The primary focus of the position is to mentor key client groups including first nations, those living with a disability, women in trade and remote Australian Apprentices.
This role provides high level support to apprentices and trainees to overcome workplace and personal barriers that may impact employment and training. The role is also responsible for ongoing monitoring of clients at risk along with providing support and guidance to employers. All functions of the Field Mentors are performed with the aim of preserving employment and training. Our mentors are supporting via a team of counsellors and social workers in order to create a holistic support service for all clients.
About You
The successful candidate will have a passion for helping people to break down barriers and work through difficult situations. You will love and have experience in building client relations across a diverse client pool along with problem solving and high-level mediation. You will also be self-motivated and able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment. This position will bring new and exciting challenges every day; in which you will provide impartial, current and personalised advice.
You will also bring:
- Industry experience and trade qualification highly regarded
- Qualification in Youth Work, Community Services or extensive work with youth highly desirable
- Proven experience in supporting clients through crisis
- Experience in planning, developing and managing mentoring programs
- Demonstrated ability to perform mediation
- Experience in the VET sector is highly desirable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels, listen objectively, provide advice free of bias and clearly articulate instructions and advice in high stress situations
- Proven capacity to meet set targets
Applicants must be eligible to work in Australia. A current Working with Children Card and National Police Check is required and can be arranged. You will also need to hold a current and valid Driver's Licence for your state/ territory. A company car is included in the package.
