McAuley Community Services for Women helps women and children who have faced family violence and homelessness to take control of their lives. Through a range of supports including accommodation, legal, health, recreation and social responses, we support women to leave us with restored capacity and greater opportunities for safe housing, economic capability and wellbeing.

We work alongside women and children, recognising their strengths and fostering their resilience to create a new future. Feminism, intersectionality and anti-oppressive practices are imbedded within our client practice and our culture.

This is a Permanent Full-Time (38 hours per week) opportunity based in Footscray within our Community Services program. The position reports to the Manager, Homelessness Services.

 As a Team Leader, you’ll empower frontline staff and support women experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives with dignity, independence, and hope - creating pathways to lasting safety, wellbeing, and housing stability.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As Team Leader at McAuley House Footscray, you’ll lead a committed team delivering trauma‑informed, holistic support to women experiencing or at risk of homelessness. You will enable staff to:

  • Assess & Prioritise – Conduct person centred intakes, identifying immediate safety and support needs
  • Co‑Design Goals – Partner with women to create strengths‑based, achievable & empowering support plans
  • Lead Capability Building – Oversee the HACC (Home and Community Care) Skills for Life program, supporting women with complex needs to develop skills & reach their goals. 
  • Navigate Housing Pathways – Support women to access and secure long‑term housing options
  • Support Recovery – Deliver trauma‑informed mental health and recovery interventions
  • Respond to Family Violence – Undertake risk assessments and provide support in line with MARAM
  • Deliver Holistic Support – Provide individualised care across health and wellbeing, substance use, independence, safety, housing, social inclusion, skill development, education, and employment
  • Build Trust & Engagement – Create strong connections through assertive outreach and regular face‑to‑face contact
  • Connect & Advocate – Leverage networks, services and resources to meet diverse needs
  • Empower Independence – Support women to achieve lasting safety, stability and independence

 

 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Commitment to equity, justice and women’s housing safety
  • Proven leadership in homelessness, housing, mental health or community services
  • Strong knowledge of trauma‑informed practice, family violence and strengths‑based case management
  • Collaborative, values led leader who motivates and supports others
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in social work or a related field
  • Experience in mental health and homelessness highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams supporting women with complex, intersecting needs

You must have a:

  • Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop);
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check;
  • Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check (for risk assessed / client facing roles). MacKillop can assist successful candidates with their application.
