MacKillop Family Services is looking for a dedicated Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with experience with adults to work alongside a team of therapists and supervisors implementing Multisystemic Therapy Psychiatric (MST-P) in the Western Melbourne region.


Primary responsibilities include:

  • The Child Psychiatrist’s primary responsibility is to function as an integral part of the MST team. This will involve lending psychiatric and medical expertise to the team’s ongoing assessment and intervention strategies in ways that facilitate adherence to the MST treatment model. 
  • The child psychiatrist will be trained in the MST-Psychiatric treatment model and must attend one meeting per week with the team supervisor, fortnightly with the MSTP Psychiatrist consultant and be available to meet with the MST Experts during site visits for quarterly training boosters. This will facilitate an integrated, medically informed approach to the youth and their families.


MST is a well-researched community-based treatment model directed at youth involved in criminal activities and their families. MST-Psychiatric is an adaption of MST created to serve families with young people at risk of out-of-home placement due to serious behavioural problems and co-oocurring mental health symptoms such as thought disorder, bipolar affective disorder depression, anxiety, impulsivity and substance use/abuse. This is an ONGOING one day a week contract opportunity based in the West (VIC) within our Clinical Services / FPRR MSTP Program. The position reports to the Manager of MSTP.

 

Key Selection Criteria:

The incumbent will have: 

  • Board certification or eligibility in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Be legally qualified practitioner, registered or registrable with AHPRA without conditions, undertakings or reprimands.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists 
  • Availability one full day a week to provide services within an outreach model 
  • Significant clinical experience in treating serious antisocial behavior in youth including research or training in diagnostic assessment, mental status examinations
