At McAuley, we walk alongside women and children who have experienced family violence and homelessness, supporting them to build safety, confidence, and brighter futures. Through accommodation, wellbeing, legal, health, and community support services, we create opportunities for women to reconnect with their strengths and thrive.

We are looking for a compassionate chef who can inspire through every meal and every moment in the kitchen at our refuge for Women.

We are offering a part-time opportunity, with flexible hours between 10am - 5pm*

We welcome applications from hospitality professionals looking for a more meaningful career path, as well as community services professionals who enjoy cooking and supporting others.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Working at our Women's only refuge you will:

  • Prepare nutritious meals that cater to diverse dietary and cultural needs.
  • Support women to build confidence through cooking, meal planning, and healthy eating activities.
  • Create a warm, welcoming kitchen environment where everyone feels included and valued.
  • Facilitate engaging group and one-on-one cooking sessions.
  • Work alongside case managers and the broader team to support residents' goals and wellbeing.
  • Help coordinate community meals and food-based activities that bring people together.

This is a Permanent Part-Time opportunity based in Footscray within our Community Services program. The position reports to the Residential House Supervisor – Homelessness.

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

Please note, we are only considering female identifying candidates for this position. McAuley Community Services for Women has an exemption to gender equality requirements.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in cooking for larger groups within a commercial kitchen or community food service environment.
  • A passion for supporting women and building positive relationships working alongside individuals and/or groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • A Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Community Services, or a related qualification is highly regarded.

You must have a:

  • Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop);
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check;
