Maintenance Officer

Based at Northern Gardens in Coburg, this Maintenance Officer role is a key part of our team. You’ll ensure the home is safe, well-maintained, and running smoothly, working closely with management and supporting a positive, caring workplace where both staff and residents thrive.

 About you ...

The Maintenance Officer’s responsibilities include painting, general home upkeep, minor repairs in residents’ rooms, light gardening, and overall maintenance of the facility.

You are a highly organised, energetic, and physically capable person who can handle tasks such as lifting equipment, using ladders, and performing hands on maintenance work. Self motivated and flexible, you take pride in your work, manage your time effectively, and communicate well with others. Success in this role comes from teamwork, empathy, and a genuine passion for working in an aged care environment.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out preventative, corrective, and general maintenance tasks to ensure the home remains safe, functional, and well presented.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment, fixtures, and plant systems as required.
  • Support the upkeep of the home’s grounds and gardens, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment.
  • Perform light cleaning and maintenance tasks such as steam cleaning carpets and furniture when needed.
  • Maintain accurate schedules, registers, and documentation to meet accreditation standards.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues or opportunities for improvement across the building, equipment, and grounds.
  • Liaise with and oversee external contractors and suppliers to ensure timely and high-quality maintenance work.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in building, equipment, and general maintenance (including painting and light gardening).
  • Experience in aged care or a similar environment highly regarded.
  • Strong communication, time management, and teamwork skills; self motivated with a proactive approach.
  • Ability to work flexibly and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders and supervising contractors.
  • Knowledge of OH&S, hygiene, and safety practices within aged care.
  • Basic computer literacy and record keeping skills.
  • Certificate in test and tagging or trade qualification (highly desirable).
  • Understanding of Aged Care Standards, accreditation, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Current police check and working rights required.
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination and up-to-date COVID vaccinations highly desirable.
